I love these kinds of stories - when you get fixated and have to try. And really love hearing why you opted out. (btw, $1300 is a very good reason imo.)
My latest fixation was the H&M Studio launching today. I woke up early just to buy the frilly white blouse (which, I should point out, does not remotely match the life I lead, but who cares).
Same, same. Love reading this story and being reminded that sometimes what we obsess about doesn't always work out.
My current fixation is the Vince satin bias pant in Bona. I feel like it's following me everywhere on IG. Doesn't exactly match my lifestyle and I don't know if I'll get much use out of it, which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Just going to keep on admiring on others for now...
I used to do this all the time in my 20s. Buy things that were beautiful, but not for me. They'd sit in my closet with tags on collecting dust. It was aspirational purchasing, buying things for the person I wanted to be rather than the person I was. Now, I buy things I know I'll use.
I definitely fall for trends here and there. In the case of these Prada shoes (beautiful I must admit), the fact that I have now seen them on several people on instagram puts me off buying them. On top of that, isn’t the price tag more of a reason to want to buy something more unique instead of something everyone has? 😊
Really fun post! Reminds me of the shopping decision chats I get into with friends (especially appreciated the text screenshot lol). FWIW, I recently fell prey to the same obsession and tried on the flats (the regular ones, not the sling-backs) and found them to run 1/2 large. I am normally a 7/37, but thought the 36.5 fit best (heel was slipping with the 37s). I also thought they were a bit stiff, but not overtly uncomfortable and they did seem like the leather would stretch and conform a bit over time. So maybe the discomfort is mostly with the sling-backs? TBD whether I will take the plunge. Regardless, thanks for the vicarious niche shopping rabbit hole!

They look so good on you. But in order for shopping math to work, they have to be comfortable to wear to get the cost per wear down
I will attest they do break in!
They are so beautiful
They are insanely uncomfortable 🥺
I appreciate your honesty. It was a fun post. Thank you!
